这真的是一首比较早的流行音乐，它所在的专辑诞生于2000年的十月份（当然也有人说这首歌的单曲实际诞生于上世纪70或60年代），由黑人女歌手Shirley Bassey演唱。
这首歌有何特殊之处呢？因为它近乎引领了千禧年及之前同志运动的音乐流行风潮，很多性少数者将之颂唱，尤其是“This is me”这句歌词的反复出现，几乎代表着同志解放自我和认同自我的心声。
与此相呼应，很多2010年之前的同志电影中都曾出现过这首歌。我曾在一部德国电影中听到过这首歌，歌曲在片尾部分，发现了自己潜藏多年的性取向的父亲与勇敢出柜后离家在酒吧唱歌的儿子之间有一个和解的过程，就在儿子唱《This Is My Life》时，父亲第一次看到了儿子的表演，歌曲临末，父亲站起身来，情不自禁喊出来儿子的名字，两个人眼含热泪，彼此相知相认。
